UPump™ ("UPump," "the App") is an independent fuel price comparison tool operated in Canada and is not affiliated with Costco Wholesale. We respect your privacy and are committed to complete transparency regarding data processing.

This Privacy Policy complies with the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

1. Personal Information Collection

UPump operates on a zero-personal-data architecture:

• We do not require user account creation, logins, or registration.
• We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell your name, email address, IP address, phone number, or device identifiers.
• We do not run third-party advertising networks, tracking cookies, or user telemetry scripts (such as Google Analytics).

2. Location Data & Handling

UPump offers an optional "Near Me" feature to sort local stations by distance:

• Client-Side Only: Location queries are processed entirely on your local device hardware via your browser's Geolocation API.
• Zero Transmission: Your geographic coordinates are never sent to external servers, stored in databases, or shared with third parties.
• User Control: Location access is entirely optional. You may decline browser location prompts and manually search by city or postal code.

3. Client-Side Local Storage (localStorage)

To remember your preferences across sessions and allow offline caching, UPump stores small preference parameters directly on your device via standard browser localStorage:

• Last searched city or postal code
• Fuel type preference (Regular, Premium, Diesel)
• Tank capacity setting (e.g., 40 L)
• Cached public price feeds for offline viewing

Data Retention & Removal: This data stays strictly on your device. You can erase all saved preferences at any time by clearing your browser cache and site data.

4. Third-Party Map Services

UPump uses OpenStreetMap (OSM) to display map tiles:

• Map tile requests are fetched directly from public OSM servers by your browser.
• Requests carry no personal identifiers or tracking tokens and comply with OpenStreetMap's Tile Usage Policies.

When tapping "Directions", your device hands off destination coordinates to your native map application (e.g., Apple Maps, Google Maps) in accordance with that application's privacy policy.

5. Price-Alert Push Notifications (Android App)

If you set a price alert in the UPump Android app and allow notifications, the app sends your device's push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) together with your alert choices (station, fuel type, target price) to our notification server, so it can send you a phone notification when a price drops to your target — even when the app is closed.

• Purpose-limited: Your push token and alert choices are used only to deliver the price alerts you asked for. They are not used for marketing and are never shared with anyone else.
• Google's role: The actual delivery of the notification is handled by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, under Google's privacy policy.
• Removal: Deleting an alert in the app removes it from the notification server. Uninstalling the app stops all notifications, and leftover tokens are purged automatically once Google reports them invalid.
